Science has determined 8 necessary roles in your team. @Mario Neumann suggests in his book ‘Proyecto Safari’ the indispensable people you need to have in your project. Neumann turns to Belbin’s model, which has been in use for more than 40 years to define these team roles.
1._ Co-ordinator. The first profile out of the 8 necessary team roles in that of co-ordinator. “Self-confident, good manager, charismatic, clarifies goals and makes decisions, apart from possessing the capacity to delegate work appropriately”. Among their functions, we can highlight “the monitoring and organisation of activities, optimising resources and motivating the other workers”.
2._ Shaper. Unlike the co-ordinator, the shaper does not need to take on “a leadership position, but needs to be monitored”. The shaper is “dynamic, challenging, thrives on pressure and, above all, has the drive and courage to overcome obstacles”.
3._ Creative. We obviously speak about an imaginative and unconventional person. “Generates new ideas and strategies and, furthermore, solves problems easily”. Neumann concludes that the creative needs to be pushed to take into account the ideas of the whole team and not only his/hers.
4._ Monitor-Evaluator. Undoubtedly, the fourth out of these 8 team roles is a sober and intelligent person. “Critical, objective, strategic…” are some of the attributes Neumman applies to the company’s “monitor-evaluator”. Although he/she does not usually take the floor unless asked to do so, his/her role is crucial. “The monitor analyses ideas and proposals and evaluate the consequences”.

5._ Disciplined. One of the 8 roles your team needs is that of the disciplined professional. Although not too flexible, he/she is 100% trustworthy. Somebody who “transforms general concepts into practical tasks and implement them”. The person taking on this role will define your business goals and structure the procedures.
6._ Cohesive. Kind and, above all, sociable are the two most important aspects defining this role. Supports their partners and co-operates so that the company’s goals are achieved, solving the conflicts that may arise on the way.
7._ Researcher. “Finds options for virtually any situations”, states Neumann. The researcher uses resources outside and inside the company until getting what he/she wants.” “Makes friends quickly and is sociable, outgoing, enthusiastic and communicative.”
8._ Perfectionist. It is the person who makes the team work, avoids failures that may be occurring in the process of project implementation. He/she always meets deadlines, does the impossible to complete the project. Nevertheless, the last of these 8 necessary team roles tends to worry unduly about everything and is reluctant to delegate tasks on other members of the company.
