Next 3rd October students (of Vocational Training, Bachilleratoand University) and young professionals from León will have the opportunity of getting to know the most innovative local companies, which offer (and will offer in the future) high-quality employment.

The meeting, which will take place in Espacio Vías from 10 am. to 2 pm., is organised for the second year running by León UP – The Investment Promotion Bureau of León City Council and is aimed at making León’s young people aware of the career opportunities and professional development provided by local companies in different innovative sectors (mainly ICT-Cybersecurity, Biopharma and Engineering).

This approach to companies (whose representatives will be able to contact those interested in personalised spaces) will help young people be informed about available posts, degree programmes and future trends. The goal is for companies to make visible the various professional opportunities offered in the local environment so that young people can define and direct their vocation and studies.

The meeting will be supplemented by the development of four theme tables with experts from companies dealing with the following topics:

  1. When I am older, I want to be…  to share the changes job positions are experiencing and the emergence of new fields in which to develop a professional career(data protection officer, growth hacker, data scientist, medical advisor…).
  2. Soft Skills. What do companies demand apart from training? Companies value candidates with specific attitudes such as adaptation, leadership skills, flexibility, proactivity, etc. These are fundamental skills when starting a new job and properly adapting to a new team and organisation.  What sort of qualities are required to join a company? How can candidates stand out when applying for a job in a company?
  3. Researcher I am, to the company I go.  On several occasions, companies recruit high-qualified profiles coming from the academic world, either as doctoral students or working for public institutions. How can professional researchers adapt more easily to the new business environment?  What difficulties are found in the adaptation process? Can this recruitment of professionals help to promote a greater technological exchange between university and company?
  4. Recruitment Procedures. Beyond CV and job interview. The recruitment of professionals in companies has evolved a lot compared with the traditional process of publication of job offers, reception of CV, interview and eventual recruitment. The inspection of the candidates’ personal brand in their social media, the use of Internet platforms such as LinkedIn to look for candidates, the evolution of CV format (the LinkedIn profile itself, video CVs, personal sites, etc.), roleplays and other tools are usually employed to recruit new talent for the company. What are the most used methodologies in the sectors involved? How do companies recruit?
