Choosing the appropriate supermarket when doing the shopping also affects the pockets of León’s citizens.
Choosing between León’s most expensive supermarket and the cheapest one may entail saving up to 25%. This is the conclusion of the annual report prepared by the Organization of Consumers and Users (Organización de Consumidores y Usuarios – OCU) regarding the average expenditure on the shopping basket by Spaniards.
Even so, if you live in León you can greatly save on your shopping basket compared to other Spanish cities such as Barcelona or San Sebastián, which are two of the cities where more money buyers spend in the supermarket.
It is this choice of supermarket that allows the customer to save more money throughout the year. In León, the cheapest supermarket is Más y Más, located in the neighbourhood La Torre, and the most expensive supermarket is El Corte Inglés. There is nearly a 25% difference in saving if you buy in one supermarket or the other. This percentage means saving about 1,200 euros per year. Among the cheapest ones, you can also find the supermarkets Familia, located in the neighbourhood El Crucero and Mercadona in Avenida Padre Isla. Every citizen in Léon spends around 5,000 euros on average.
