The third session day of Foro Empresas LeónUP analysed –thanks to Luis Hidalgo, from INCIBE’s Department of Institutional Relations- the key milestones in cyberspace and how the companies’ vulnerabilities are exploited by new cybercriminals specialised in technology. The main conclusion of his talk in front of about twenty managers of local enterprises might well be that “cybersecurity is not an option.”
INCIBE monitors in real time the attacks or threats occurring throughout the world –millions on a daily basis-, though only a few hundreds of them reach public visibility or repercussion in the media (just as the recent Facebook Gate case with Cambridge Analytica). In Spain alone in 2017, INCIBE dealt with 123,064 cybersecurity incidents with citizens, companies, university networks and critical operators.
Within that context, the SMEs –especially the smallest ones- are particularly vulnerable. The good news is that INCIBE develops one of its major lines of action by providing service to enterprises through:
– self-diagnosis tools which identify risks
– blog and security notification and alert systems
– several manuals and tools
– online courses
In addition, insists Luis Hidalgo, if something fails “in INCIBE we are here to help”. There are multiple ways of reporting a cybersecurity incident and the INCIBE team works with its experts’ full knowledge and professionality in order to try to solve the problem with minimum consequences
It is really important “to use your five senses to prevent cybersecurity incidents, without forgetting common sense, as well as to raise awareness and train all employees”.
