With 30 people among entrepreneurs and representatives of institutions, the first Foro Empresas LeónUP started off.
Three members of Galactéa Plus moved to León from Valladolid last Tuesday to explain to some León-based companies how to be able to take part in financing programmes for R&D&I (I+D+i) projects using European funds, besides getting in touch with companies from other EU member countries, through the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), with which to establish trading and strategic relations aiming to the expansion of their activity at an international level. During the first day of Foro Empresas LeónUP the participants delved into the different funding lines for R&D&I projects included within the framework of the EU Horizonte 2020 (H2020) programmes.
These programmes were awarded with a budget of nearly €80,000m for the 2014-2020 period (€30,000m for the period stretching from 2018 to 2020) with the aim of boosting research and innovation in the SMEs (PYMEs) of all EU member countries, always having a highly market-based focus, that is, that the research, development or innovation performed by the companies have always in mind as object the marketing of the service or product obtained with that research. Other potential funding lines outside the H2020 framework, but likewise stemming from European funds, were also discussed. Depending on the activity and project to be developed by the company, they can opt for one programme or another.
With regard to the EEN network, many of the European funding programmes require the participation of companies coming from at least three EU member countries, hence the importance of the topics addressed in this first Foro Empresas LeónUP: knowing how to search for partners which will enable the access to EU’s big-money aids.
It is important to stress that Tecnosylva, León-based enterprise devoted to advanced solutions to forest fires, described its experience of taking part in European R&D&I projects in the forum, being the most difficult part the initial search for partners needed to access EU-funded aid programmes. But once you get in touch with companies from other countries and you are assigned with a project, it is much easier to opt for further ones. Tecnosylva has been participating in these R&D&I programmes at a European level for ten years. Tecnosylva is the perfect example of how a SME (PYME), which is not a big company but is indeed a good one, can also benefit from this R&D&I financing.
